Finding your calling in University is hard. Very hard. It doesn’t happen to most people. But Classical Studies is one field that you rarely find dispassionate students majoring in. However, taking this subject in a country that completely lacks any significant association with the Classical world…
I just finished the most in-depth reading and analysis of Plato’s “Phaedo” that I’ve done so far and oh god, the headache. The massive headache I have brewing. Socrates is so damn smug it’s like every time he smiles at Simmias he’s philosophically mocking the pain he will cause me 2300+ years later. If nothing I am doing is achieving true knowledge then why doesn’t someone just dole out the damn hemlock already?!
